Why President Trump is the Best Friend Israel Has Ever Had

President Donald J. Trump stands out as the most steadfast ally Israel has ever had in the White House.

This week the Republican National Convention took place in Milwaukee. Trump showed up following the assassination attempt in an early Trump rally in Butler, in which the shooter was eliminated.

During the Republican National Convention (RNC), thousands of attendees paused to pray for hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, including five American hostages. This moment strongly demonstrated the core values of the Republican Party: unwavering support for Israel, and heartfelt prayers for Israel. No president has embodied these commitments more profoundly than Donald Trump, and let me explain why.

Recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s Eternal Capital

In a move that defied decades of U.S. foreign policy and international consensus, President Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December 2017. This was not just a political maneuver; it was a profound affirmation of Jewish historical and religious ties to the city. For over 3,000 years, Jerusalem has been the heart of Jewish identity, and Trump's declaration, followed by moving the U.S. Embassy there in May 2018, cemented this truth in modern history.

This decision was a game-changer, signaling to the world that the United States acknowledged the reality that Israelis have always known. Jerusalem is not just any city; it is the epicenter of Jewish faith and culture. By recognizing this, Trump honored the historical and spiritual significance of the city, fulfilling a promise that many U.S. presidents had made but failed to keep. This move was met with widespread applause in Israel and among Jewish communities worldwide.

The Abraham Accords: A New Dawn of Peace

Under Trump's administration, the impossible became possible with the signing of the Abraham Accords. These historic agreements normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. The accords marked a shift in Middle Eastern diplomacy, demonstrating that peace and cooperation are achievable even in one of the world's most volatile regions.

The Abraham Accords shattered the long-held belief that peace with Israel was contingent upon resolving the Palestinian issue. Instead, they opened new avenues for economic, technological, and security cooperation, fostering a pragmatic approach to regional stability. These agreements were a testament to Trump’s ability to think outside the box and leverage the United States' influence to bring about meaningful change. By facilitating these agreements, Trump not only helped to stabilize the region but also proved that Israel could create peaceful relationships with its Arab neighbors, reshaping the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.

Confronting Iran’s Threat

One of the most critical aspects of Trump’s support for Israel was his stance on Iran, Israel's most formidable enemy (as well as the U.S). Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 was a masterstroke of strategic clarity. The deal, a cornerstone of the Obama administration’s foreign policy, was deeply flawed, allowing Iran to continue its nuclear ambitions under a veneer of compliance. The Mossad proved that Iran lied to the world and continued to advance its nuclear program in secret in a daring operation in which they store files deep inside Iran. By reinstating crippling sanctions, Trump cut off the financial lifeline of the Iranian regime, hindering its ability to fund terrorism across the Middle East.

This move was a direct blow to one of Israel's most dangerous enemies, ensuring that Iran’s path to nuclear weapons was obstructed. Trump's hardline stance sent a clear message to Tehran: its aspirations to establish a Shiite caliphate and its threats to annihilate Israel would not be tolerated. This decisive action significantly enhanced Israel's security, making it clear that the United States would stand firm against any threat to its ally.

Defending Israel in International Arenas

The United Nations has long been a hotbed of anti-Israel sentiment, with resolutions and declarations disproportionately targeting the Jewish state. Under Trump, the United States took an unprecedented stand against this bias. Through the vocal presence of Ambassador Nikki Haley, the Trump administration consistently vetoed one-sided resolutions and condemned the U.N.’s disproportionate focus on Israel. This robust defense sent a clear message: the United States would no longer tolerate the vilification of its ally.

This was a refreshing change from the usual diplomatic tap-dancing, showcasing a bold, unapologetic support for Israel on the world stage. The Trump-appointed US Ambassador's tenure at the U.N. was marked by a vigorous defense of Israel, including the U.S. vetoing one-sided resolutions and threatening to cut funding to U.N. bodies that perpetuated anti-Israel agendas. This strong stance at international forums was a testament to Trump's commitment to defending Israel’s interests and combating global antisemitism.

Recognizing Israeli Sovereignty Over the Golan Heights

In another groundbreaking decision, Trump recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights in March 2019. The Golan Heights, a strategic plateau, has been under Israeli control since it was captured from Syria during the Six-Day War in 1967. By officially recognizing this sovereignty, Trump not only validated Israel's security needs but also acknowledged the reality on the ground.

This move was critical in ensuring Israel's defense against hostile Iran-backed forces in Syria and beyond. The Golan Heights provides Israel with a strategic buffer against potential threats from its northern borders, and Trump's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the region reinforced the principle that aggressive wars and attempts to destroy nations should not be rewarded.

Fighting Antisemitism: A Global Stance

Beyond his policies in the Middle East, Trump has been a defender of Jewish people globally. His administration's efforts to combat antisemitism have been comprehensive and vigorous. In 2019, Trump signed an executive order aimed at combating antisemitism on college campuses. This order expanded Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to include protections against antisemitic discrimination, ensuring that Jewish students could study in a safe environment free from hate and bigotry.

Moreover, Trump was unafraid to call out and pressure European nations to address rising antisemitism within their borders. His administration's clear stance against the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to delegitimize and economically isolate Israel, was another testament to his unwavering support for the Jewish state.

His Legacy

President Trump's tenure was marked by a series of historic decisions and actions that significantly strengthened U.S.-Israel relations and taking the security and recognition of the Jewish state to the next level. From recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital to brokering peace deals, from standing up to Iran to defending Israel at the U.N., Trump demonstrated an unparalleled Biblical commitment to Israel and the Jewish people.

In a world where political leaders often prioritize diplomacy over doing what is right, Trump's unabashed support for Israel and his fight against antisemitism stand as a powerful reminder that courage and conviction can indeed change the course of history.

Israel has had many friends in the White House, but few had been as steadfast and impactful as Donald J. Trump. His presidency will be remembered as a transformative period for U.S.-Israel relations, characterized by bold decisions, unwavering support, and a deep commitment to the security and prosperity of the Jewish state.
